The weather's starting to chill and holiday decorations are sneaking their way into Magnificent Mile window displays. Before Michigan Avenue's filled with twinkling lights, The Art Institute of Chicago's lions are draped in wreaths and the Christkindlmarket opens in Daley Plaza, I decided to enjoy the fall decorations and spirit in the city.
I've included a photo slideshow of my walk down Michigan Avenue, which started at the Art Institute on Michigan Avenue and Monroe Street and ended at Delaware Place and Michigan Avenue.
Here's a few of the things I saw and heard that did not make it onto film:
- A man getting his shoes shined. Do you think this is the man equivalent of a pedicure?
- The lower building front of 444 N. Michigan Ave. changing colors from white to pink to blue. It's marvelous.
- A man with a megaphone urging the troops to come home and reminding passersby to raise their flag on Veteran's Day.
- A man playing a saxophone on Delaware Place. A girl walking by says, "Play me a Christmas song." As soon as she passes he says, "give me a Christmas tip." I give him a tip, as I love street music and his is beautiful.
- A cute fabric scarecrow in one of the sidewalk displays.
- A man playing the electric guitar on Michigan Avenue.
Have you visited Michigan Avenue this fall? What did you like best?
