After spending six lonely days in quarantine at the city shelter, the future is looking brighter for Carmen the "ferocious" feline.

The anxious 10-year-old Russian Blue cat that reportedly held her family hostage in their Manhattan apartment last week is breathing easier today in a Staten Island animal hospital.

Carmen's nightmare began when Owner Rosa Davila and her son, Victor Marte, 27, called for help at their 42nd St. apartment on Sunday afternoon, after their cat reportedly “got violent” and scratched the sons legs, The New York Post reported.

The 16-pound cat, who suffers from thyroid disease and borderline diabetes, was put on a required 10-day rabies hold after cops called to the scene hauled her to the the Animal Care & Control's Manhattan shelter.

The downtrodden kitty's luck took a turn yesterday after an outpouring of concern prompted her transfer to the veterinary hospital where she'll stay for the remainder of the required bite-hold period, said ACC operations director Richard Gentles.

Carmen would have been euthanized at the end of the required hold had she remained in the shelter.

Her boarding and medical care is being paid for by a concerned cat lover, who did not want to be identified.  She is desperate to find Carmen a foster home and a second chance.

Meanwhile, Davila said Carmen isn’t a bad kitty and has no history of biting or scratching. In fact, she described the Russian Blue as a bit of a princess who sometimes slept by her side.

Davila thinks her unchecked medical condition caused the cat's odd behavior. Still, she can’t afford to pay for her medical treatment, which means Carmen won't be going back to the place she called home for nine long years.
