This is the second year in a row that the fountain water has been dyed green. First Lady Michelle Obama came up with the idea to do it. She said it was inspired by her home town, Chicago, which dyes the Chicago River green every year for St. Patrick's Day.

San Francisco has a long Irish-American history. In 1867, the city became one of the first major cities in the country to elect an Irish Catholic mayor. His name was Frank McCoppin.
