Adam Lambert made no apologies in his interview with the CBS Early Show. The singer told The Early Show's Maggie Rodriguez that he had "no clue at all" that his appearance on the American Music Awards would be so controversial.
Lambert told CBS: "I was really looking forward to it. I worked really hard with my dancers and my band for about two weeks putting that together. And, I admit I did get carried away, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I do see how people got offended, and that was not my intention. My intention was just to interpret the lyrics of my song and have a good time up there."
He told The Early Show that he's "not a babysitter, I am a performer."
He later said: "I think it's up to a parent to watch the television. It was almost 11:00 at night. If they're concerned with certain material maybe Tivo it and preview it before your small child is watching it."
He added that the reaction to his performance reflected a double-standard with gay males.
He said, "If it had been a female pop performer ... I don't think there'd be nearly as much of an outrage at all."

He makes some very good points - what parent has their young child up at 11pm watching a TV show. And even it it's something they don't like, it makes a good talking point to bring up with their children "Well he kissed that guy. He has every right to do that, but I don't think it needs to be part of that show." Or whatever. What can be wrong with improving communication between parent and child?
Geez I have to agree with Adam Lambert. I was watching the AMAs and there were so many other artists pushing the boundaries that night. That was only a grown up show as evident by the opening act. Talk about some lewd behavior and it didn't get any softer except for the other American Idols who of course just stand and sing. Each performer who came up on stage tried to out do the last one and actually I thought Adam Lambert had the best overall performance of the night. As I can see today Adam Lambert has the most influence of all of these artist. He is the biggest break out artist this year. His singing on the CBS morning show proves he has the chops and his album is killer. He is going to change the music and culture as we know it. Give him time. Killer band too.
I see a double standard and I usually listen to just rock. I can tell you when Jay Z was singing and the words just kept getting bleeped out you knew it was only and adult show. Why any parent would have let their kids stay up when Eminem walked on stage. You know Eminem will have to write a song about this now as he loves controversy. However, who's side will Eminem pick? I love my Eminem so I hope he does a guys vs girls and includes Adam on the dude's side. Because then I know my man Eminem would write a real bite song. It is true and I bet Eminem has seen it. Plus it would be so kick *** for some rappers to sing with Adam Lambert. Especially with Eminem starting to sing phrases now in his rap, if Adam and him collaborated on a song. Dang it would be a shut down record. Tops.
Adam is very articulate and intelligent. He may not be a politician but he isn't one to cower and back down from a fight. Maggie Rodriguez tried to exercise her journalistic training and back Adam into a corner and failed. I'm glad too. I honestly felt Adam Lambert did nothing wrong other than go off what had been practiced in their choreograph. He stated though he let the adrenaline get the best of him and he went with it. I belive it. We've all done things when we have gotten caught up in the moment he was just lucky he was surrounded by the friends/family of his dancers and band members. Of all of the groups, singers, artists I have read about these guys become family and that bond that everyone builds and has with one another is stronger than blood. So yeah someone gets into the moment a little to far, the next morning it is all good. He is learning. This was his first TV performance, he is growning. He deserves a break, ease up folks.
Lambert rocks! His cd is hot! Can't wait for the music video of FYE I saw a short clip from it and it is sweet! Can't wait to see him dance and wear more costumes. Not Gaga outfits, clothes by Adam. He needs his own fashion line. Kid is a gold mine.
Adam is right and ABC is wrong. CBS is wrong for not showing the picture. It isn't that big of a deal. Doesn't CBS have a soap in which they have a male gay couple kissing and touching each other all the time in it? Doesn't that run during the day time when kids can see it? Isn't that in the same venue as the AMAs? Now I am so confused.
I think he did a great job of creating buzz and making his American Idol career last a little farther than most. It's a TERRIBLE double standard. By your typical male fantasy standards, many men love to see two women kissing, but get freaked out when it's two guys. It's the pot calling the kettle black. I just don't see what the big deal is. Additionally I agree with SheScot about parents educating their kids about how the world is changing today. Ed, you have great coverage of everything, keep it up.
