As many as twenty people stood by and watched a gang rape in Richmond, California, Saturday night, police said today. Richmond is in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area, about 20-minutes north of Oakland.
The victim was a 15-year-old girl who was returning from a homecoming dance. Police believe that as many as seven people participated in the attack. They have offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone who participated in the crime.
Police believe the assault lasted for about two hours. A 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested.
According to the Contra Costa Times, the victim became vulnerable to the attack after she followed a classmate into a secluded and dark area. She joined a group of young people who were drinking and became incapacitated after drinking brandy quickly, the paper reports.
The girl is recovering in a hospital, in stable condition.

May be politically incorrect to say, but I have a simple answer -- make arrests, give them one very fair and through trial and upon conviction hang them within 48 hours.
Sounds too harsh? Travel to Singapore someday. It is one of the few large cities where things like this virtually never happen. Women can walk any dark alley at 4:00am in safety. You can drink, you can fun, but you can't hurt people on the way home. They would hang these bastards which is just what they deserve. And it would send a great message to their friends the next time they contemplate such behavior.

What has happened to this country? Things like this are not supposed to happen here. Even more alarming to me is that every time I hear one of these unbelievable news reports, it took place in California. Our prison system is over crowded and the cost to warehouse all of these people is staggering. The State of California should go after the Mexican government to recoup the cost of locking up all the illegals, since the Federal Government is not footing the bill. We need Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. I would lock these people up, make them work hard 16 hour days to offset the cost of their incarceration and not give them coffee, cigarettes, or television. Our prison system needs to be so horrific that no one wants be there. Capital punishment should also be brought back.
This is horrifying and disgusting. These people, both the violent criminals and their audience, don't deserve to be considered human or to walk this planet.

That is disgusting. They should be castrated, amputated, and then humiliated in public. After they've learned there lesson they should be publicly hanged and their bodies left to rot without burial. If I was personally there and had a gun I wouldn't have thought twice about shooting them.
I say that they are freaking gross if I was there I would of died before they would of hit that girl a second time. They should be taken out into the middle of the prison yard and have someone announce that they beat and raped this poor girl see how they like it. I think it is so sad. Some of these kids today are so heartless.I have a fourteen year old and and i look at him and think about this young lady and my heart goes out too her and her family.But i will say this they need too be punished like grown folk,they want to act grown and commit grown folks crime then do the time,and society needs to just shut up with they are kids i don not feel sorry for them.

Parents in this school district need to find out what fantasy world District spokesman, Marin Trujillo,is living in. This violent act against this child happened after a school function on school property. I am sure the school would like to shift the blame elsewhere. Who was monitoring this event?

I don't know if it's worth looking into, but how do we psychologically explain this behavior? Young men expressing collective sadistic violent sexual assault of a single young woman.

Solutions :
1. The high school needs to start teaching safety skills to students, particularly women.
2. I don't see any point in having large organized social functions at high schools, they are a recipe for disaster.

the attacker are nothing more than savage animals and deserve to be "put down". similar are the people who watched and did nothing to assist the young girl, with any luck they will someday be the recipient of a heinous crime.
If someone raped my kid I would kill them, or pay someone to kill them if they were in jail.
I hope those bystanders have to live with their guilt for the rest of their lives. In fact, I hope they have to live with that guilt while rotting in jail next to the low-lifes who committed such a heinous crime.
