The skies over Northern and Central California lit up around 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, November 7. It was likely part of a meteor shower, experts said. Witnesses described it as a big white fireball.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, it was part of the annual Taurids meteor showers which peak between November 5-12.
Bing Quock with San Francisco's Morrison Planetarium told KCBS radio that based on witnesses' descriptions, the object was likely between the size of a baseball or soccer ball and may have disintegrated before it hit the earth.
The YouTube vdeo below that shows some of the contrails vapor left behind by the fireball.
The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that the fireball prompted a number of 911 calls.
Fox 40 reports that the fireball caused a big stir in the Sacramento area.

No... it wasn't PART of the meteor shower... It's called a fireball or a bolide and though it is a meteor it is not part of the Leonids, Taurids, or any other meteor shower. It's merely a coincidence that it happened near the time of the shower.
A "meteorite" cannot possibly leave a smoke trail since it's not considered a meteorite until it impacts the ground. Therefore your description of the meteorite "...The YouTube vdeo below that shows some of the contrails vapor left behind by the meteorite...." is in fact incorrect terminology and scientifically inaccurate.
This was a fireball event and had ZERO to do with the Taurids.

My ship has arrived See ya!
I caught video of a Taurid Meteor Fireball Saturday Night at 10:20PM CT over Western Arkansas:
you can see the video at realclearwx . com
i saw that too!!! but there was no way it was the size of a baseball... it looked sooooo much bigger than that. and it looked like to me that it fell in the ocean; that it didn't disenigrate...
How could it be the size of a baseball or soccer ball! I don't think size can be easily ascertained from that far away, and if many people saw it I would think it had to have been initially (anyways), much larger!
Yet another UFO video proving Obama is a communist muslim born in afrika.
I was on the Santa Cruz pier and saw this large shiny burning-white object shooting towards the ocean. It let out a flash and then disappeared. The long tail of smoke was visible for another 10-15 minutes. Definitely, a lot bigger than a soccer ball.
