'Regarding the Al Gore divorce, who gets the Internet?' Rush Limbaugh jokes

'Regarding the Al Gore divorce, who gets the Internet?' Rush Limbaugh jokes.

It's not too soon for the jokes at least not for some pundits.

Talk show host Rush Limbaugh, broadcast locally on San Francisco station, KSFO (AM 560), quipped, "Regarding the Al Gore divorce, who gets the Internet?"

Limbaugh was referring to Gore's reputed claim that he invented the Internet.

If you haven't heard, former Vice President Al Gore is separating from his wife, Tipper, according to the Associated Press. The couple have been married 40 years. According to an e-mail sent to friends that was sent to the Associated Press, the break up was "a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration."

A spokesman for Gore confirmed the statement but declined further comment.

George W. Bush defeated Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election. Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for his environmental work to draw attention to global warming. He also won an Oscar for his documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

The breakup was already generating a lot of talk here in the San Francisco Bay Area. The popular Armstrong and Getty Show, broadcast locally on KNEW radio and KFTY-TV as well as KSTE in Sacramento, reported the story when it broke.   Host Joe Getty suggested that Gore "going Hollywood" and the accolades that Gore got following his Oscar may have ultimately led to the couple’s breakup.  Getty noted the deference that Hollywood celebrities such as actor  Leonardo DiCaprio  showed Gore. The former VP is looked upon as a deity by some in the environmental movement.  Getty noted that DiCaprio literally bowed before Gore.

The hosts also noted the Internet speculation that Al Gore was having an affair with CBS 60 Minutes reporter Leslie Stahl.

According to Politico.com, The couple wrote in an e-mail to friends:

“We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate.

“This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further.”

Tipper and Al Gore celebrated their 40th marriage anniversary just last month.

Tipper Gore is known for her work on mental heath issues.

Writer's note: I am aware that the Rush Limbaugh show now is heard on KSFO, not on KNBR, but the darn Examiner.com publishing tool won't let me correct the mistake. Sorry.

it is so disgusting that Limbaugh had to make a joke on the breakdown of a 40-yr union. Shame on him.

Well played Rush! What a great sense of humor this brilliant man possesses. Who gets the Internet, funny stuff.
And the fact it drives you goofy liberals crazy is icing on the cake.

Maybe his self-righteous hipocrisy just got to be too much for her. Or maybe she had too big of a "carbon footprint" for his taste. Who knows. But anybody that bows to this two-faced father of lies is an idiot too, so Leonardo DiCaprio, you're on my list of actors I will not pay to go see.
