Users of Google Earth will now be able to use the program to view the ongoing construction of the bridge's self-anchored suspension span.
The program, which allows individuals to view locations around the world using satellite imagery and maps, will now show images of the construction process as each bridge section is lifted into place.
The first deck section of the new span was put into place earlier this week, following the first arrival of the bridge's parts from China last month.
Using the 3-D feature of the program, users will now be able to view the bridge at any angle. Viewers can also log onto www.baybridgeinfo.org to obtain more images of the bridge and get real-time information about the construction process.
Caltrans aims to have the new eastern span open to the public in 2013.
