Sadly, this is not an April Fools joke: Babylon falling, revolution-inspired bookstore and art gallery, will close its doors after two years of bringing a fresh, contemporary perspective to San Francisco, a city with a history of revolutionary, counter-cultural spirit. While independent booksellers frequently fight an uphill battle to remain competitive with larger corporate retailers, the poor economy was the final nail in the coffin for Babylon Falling. It is sad to see another indie bookstore tank after the demise of the Market St. staple, Stacey's Bookstore, which sold its last book in March.
Because of the bookstore's impending closure, owner Sean Stewart has announced a massive sale--everything (books [see their impressive collection of urban art literature], signed prints, signed books, dvd's, tees, art etc. etc.) is 50% off. Get yourself over to Babylon Falling (1017 Bush St.) to bid farewell and take advantage of sale prices on rare items.
