As I led my tourist friends down Columbus on Saturday, I realized that if I was going to face the madness of Pier 39 on a gorgeous summer's day I'd need some coffee. We were too far from any of my usual haunts, so I decided to try someplace new: XOX Truffles.
I had walked by XOX before, and had always been curious. It's a tiny little place with barely enough room for six inside (standing), but it's cute and smells like chocolate, which is lure enough for me! I was pleased to find that they serve espresso, and that, although their facilities are limited (my iced latte was chilled with crushed ice from a bag in a cooler in the fridge), the coffee is quite lovely.
Even better, though, was the next discovery I made. I decided to indulge myself and order a truffle, since the place smelled so delicious, and when I pulled out my wallet to pay the lovely man behind the counter waved me off, informing me that the truffle was free! Before I could pat myself on the back for dressing especially cutely that day, though, he told me that every coffee drink comes with a free truffle.
And with those magic words, a new favorite coffee haunt was born.
