Chris Brown and Rihanna: healing by writing?
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Chris Brown and Rihanna are planning to write a book together ... on abuse. They'll also go on a media blitz, appearing on talk shows to address the assault incident.
Per the article: "It will involve not only Brown's telling of his increasingly abusive behavior toward Rihanna, but also partnering with clinical experts in the field to add credibility to the couple's efforts."
Hold on a second. I don't have an insider's view of the situation, but it's only been a month since the assault happened. I know enough that it takes much longer for emotional wounds to heal, for thoughts to clarify. This book idea was probably cooked up by a PR team trying to do some damage control.
Nevertheless, with the book industry in decline, I'm sure that major publishers are clamoring to bid on this title.

You're absolutely right, it takes a long time to heal and with that I'm an example. I'm the author of Laying Down My Burdens a memoir about my own 15 years of being a victim and to think they can just use this as PR twist I'm not only insulted but saddened to think the violence that erupted between them will now be for entertainment value only.
For the victims of violence, the healing process is important; it takes time and professional support to overcome the beating. First you blame yourself for what happened, almost everything is yourfault, you should not have reacted so strongly after reading an e-mail by example. And the you go, the beater is not a bad person, he was just under an enormous pressure, normally he does not behave like this. All this leads to the trivialization of any kind of violence. I am a father and I taught my children (now adults), that violence does not solve anything, it just make problems worst. This is a real life drama not a screenplay written by a PR expert. When there is a circus, always consider to which individual it will benefit the most. To Rihanna? Not sure.
