The fallout is continuing in California following an incident in which five students were sent home for wearing shirts with the American on Cinco de Mayo Wednesday.

The incident happened at the Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, about an hour south of San Francisco.

On Thursday, May 6, about 50 students, many carrying the Mexican flag, walked out of classes. The students told reporters that they thought it was disrespectful for the students to wear the American flag on their shirts while others were celebrating Cinco de Mayo.

The school's principal claimed the students wearing the flag was a safety issue because it could spark fights between students.

Others called the school hypocritical because dozens of students wore the colors of the Mexican flag but they were not sent home.

The school's principal does not have the backing of the school district. The Morgan Hill Unified School District says the school did not handle the incident properly. Several parents are calling for the principal to be fired.

Top-rated radio talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger broke format on her show on Thursday, May 6, to blast the school for kicking the students out for wearing the flag shirts. Schlessinger said that the children of illegal immigrants should not be granted rights of citizens. She noted that Americans who violate Mexican immigration laws are sent to jail.

The issue over whether the California students wearing flags on their shirts being thrown out of school was one of the top topics on news radio throughout the country.

I just don't understand this. THIS IS AMERICA. We honor the AMERICAN FLAG ! The american flag is THIS COUNTRY'S FLAG. The latino population is bitching and sniveling about how they don't like how americans treat them. Well, what the hell do you expect when you fly another country's flag. Especially with the furor in today's USA??? That does NOTHING except bring on the fire!
I think I will go to mexico with a USA flag on my shirt. OH WAIT. that makes me as stupid as the mexicans.

i don't understand the contempt for the flag; which is the symbol of a country that has provided these un gratefukl anchor babies with a place to be born, education and in some/most cases (statistically) housing, medical, food/cash assistance etc. IGNORANT LITTLE BASTARDS! GO BACK TO MEXICO!
