On January 12th, 2010, Haiti suffered a magnitude 7.0 earthquake which has killed an estimated 200,000 people and left thousands of others injured, homeless and without food or shelter. With many people in need, millions of dollars in money have come in from around the world to support the relief efforts.
Jason Lee, the Lincoln High School girls varsity basketball coach, wanted to make a contribution as well. Lee came up with the idea of hosting a all day basketball shootout on Saturday with the gate receipts and concession revenues being donated to the Haiti relief efforts. The only catch was getting teams to commit to playing, especially in the middle of their regular season.
Lee's reached out to several teams and his efforts was rewarded as fellow Academic Athletic Association teams Washington, Wallenberg, Lowell, and International Studies Academy committed to playing along with Lee's Lincoln team. What was even more impressive was that out of town teams such as Kennedy (Richmond), Berkeley, and Bradshaw Christian (Sacramento) made the trek to San Francisco to play.
Obviously, the games could not go on without officials. Lee was grateful that fourteen officials from the Northern California Basketball Officials (NCBOA) volunteered their services to work the five games (1 JV, 4 Varsity) that were played on Saturday.
The headline game was Lee's Lincoln team taking on East Bay power Berkeley with Berkeley winning 73-49. Lincoln's Hallie Meneses scored 36 points in the losing effort.
Lee commented after the shootout had finished: "It was really a great day having the teams, fans and officials come out to support such a cause. I believe we raised over $1000 for the day from door charge, concessions and donations."

At the Crusader Forum - Riordan High School (San Francisco)
The visiting St. Francis Lancers (9-0, 17-2 overall) rallied from a 31-26 halftime deficit to knock off the host Riordan Crusaders (2-7, 9-10 overall) 61-56 Friday evening and remained undefeated in West Catholic Athletic League play.
Riordan looked out of sync early as they trailed 9-2 early in the first quarter. However they regained their composure to tie the game at 15-15 after the first quarter and played a great second quarter to pull into a 31-26 lead at halftime.
However, St. Francis came out ready to play in the third quarter and went on a 17-2 run to take a 43-33 lead. Riordan would not fold and kept within striking distance late into the fourth quarter but St. Francis would never relinquish the lead.
