The Our Love program and the STOP AIDS Project presented CHURCH at The Café Sunday, October 25. The event was hosted by the fabulous BeBe Sweetbriar and DJ’ed by Olga T.
Executive Director of the STOP AIDS Project Kyriell Noon said, ‘This is the 10th Anniversary of the Our Love Program. In 1999, we started STOP AIDS for Black men as a means of fighting HIV/AIDS in our community.”
The line-up for the event included amazing performances by Carla Blackwell and Sweetbriar. Blackwell sang “Our Love” originally performed by Natalie Cole. According to Noon, the Our Love program was named after the song performed by Cole. Sweetbriar performed Whitney Houston’s #1 hit, Million Dollar Bill.
The program started with a delicious meal catered by Soul Food restaurant Farmer Brown located in downtown San Francisco. The menu included fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and cornbread. Drag Diva Miss Rahni said, “The food is sooo good!”
Following performances, Noon and Our Love program coordinator Terry Dyer addressed the crowd. Noon brought everyone’s attention to the calendar that was on sale for $15.00. The calendar is called Black in the Castro and “features prominent black men from the community” said Noon. Dyer said loud and clear, “We work to prevent HIV transmission in San Francisco. We want to bring together the community of Black Men. We are here!”
Following the festivities, Noon said, “this was a great opportunity
