This fall, CHEER San Francisco celebrates its 30th anniversary of entertaining audiences around the world while raising funds for local service organizations.  The 65+ volunteer team kicked off its pearl anniversary with high-flying performances in San Francisco, Sacramento, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, and most recently, Palm Springs.

“It is amazing that CHEER SF is able to thrive as an all-volunteer organization, all the while staying true to our mission to perform, fundraise, and help people in need” said Program Director Steve Burke. To date, CHEER SF has donated over $150,000 to local, national and international agencies that serve people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging conditions.

Performing volunteer Anthony Alston added, “This year, we kicked up our efforts to raise even more. Not only are we raising money for our beneficiaries, but we’re also competing in Germany at the Gay Games which requires even more support from our community.”  CHEER SF has appeared at all seven quadrennial Gay Games, and for the first time next summer, Cheerleading will be an adjudicated competition at Gay Games VIII. To offset some of the travel costs, the team has challenged itself to raise $60,000, double its typical annual goal.

CHEER SF has several fundraising campaigns in progress during the holidays, and the team’s dedicated spirit has created new opportunities that represent the team’s growing popularity in the Bay Area.  This coming Saturday, November 21 at 7pm, CHEER SF will present a benefit event hosted by Donna Sachet: BACK TUCK, a high spirited drag extravaganza at Club Trigger; 2344 Market Street, 415-551-CLUB, clubTRIGGER.com.

Following the benefit show, CHEER SF will make its sixth consecutive seasonal appearance at the Cal Women’s Basketball game at Haas Pavilion against Baylor University.  Game begins at 2pm this Sunday, November 22.

On Friday, November 27, CHEER SF will make its inaugural appearance at the annual San Rafael Parade of Lights.  While electrifying audiences with powerful stunt routines along the parade route, the team will be collecting donations into its hand-held “Spirit Buckets” for the Positive Resource Center.  In addition, CHEER SF is currently selling tickets to the San Francisco 49ers game against the Arizona Cardinals on December 14.  These $59 tickets are being sold by the team for a discount price of $40, and $15 goes to CHEER SF’s beneficiaries.  Visit www.CHEERSF.org to purchase tickets and be sure to use promotional code Cheersf49.
