Sprite Stitch blog showcases gamers' crafty side

The coolest thing about the Internet is the way it brings people together, especially people with unique interests. (Minds out of the gutter now!) Take web log “Sprite Stitch” which started out modestly enough as a place for San Francisco-based crafting enthusiast John Lohman to share his creative gaming-related cross stitch patterns with fellow crafters, gamers and...crafter-gamers.

With most niche interests, you never know how big they really are until you do a 'net search for them; turns out, there are a lot of inspired folks out there making video-game-themed crafts and so Sprite Stitch has grown from a one-man show into a collective nexus for homespun objets d'art. That's not to say of course, that Lohman isn't still an active contributor to the site, in all kinds of media. As Lohman tells it, “The majority of my crafting involves cross stitching, but I got started crocheting and dabble in some woodworking here and there.”

Lohman's whimsical cross stitch patterns represent a wide range of video game titles like Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy as well as old school classics like Kirby, Dig Dug, Pac Man and Centipede.

If you're interested in trying one of these patterns yourself, or if you knit, paper sculpt, or sew your own craftsy creations, visit the Sprite Stitch website, craft-central for all manner of inventive video game craft ideas.
