Ever wonder why games suck so bad in all the same ways? Because it's big business to make another Madden, or first-person war shooter. No one cares, except The Escapist. The leading games mag has a great piece on how Xbox co-creator Seamus Blackley says dull work environments and a calcified, stratified industry are strangling the next great game maker in his or her cubicle.
"The Will Wrights, the Warren Spectors, the Sid [Meiers], the Tim Schafers ... there is no generation after them," Blackley said. “We lost a generation of designers [to short term business decisions]."
Other industries this applies to: newspapers, music. And look where it got them. EA, you've been warned. Keep the beancounters away from the next Flower, Katamari Damacy or Noby Noby Boy, ya hear?
