The five vital factors that predict a partner's STD potential

"Herpes?! I should have never let you have your bachelor party in Thailand!"

I know, I know--that hot bartender with the reassuring smile said he was "clean." But thanks to Captain Morgan and crippling loneliness you threw caution (and condoms) to the wind, and that night you showed him the benefits of your background in gymnastics. Sadly, you're now one of the 19 million Americans that contracted an STD this year.

For those of us that still enjoy a high and mighty, STD-free existence, there's a new catch: A recent study shows that a bedmate’s activities may have more to do with whether or not you get an STD than your own behavior. The results, published this year in an issue of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (subscriptions make an excellent gift, by the way), showed that some participants in the study reported very low-risk behaviors but were having sex with very high-risk partners (a.k.a. they're dutifully keeping the condoms coming while their partner is gearing up for an on-the-sly threesome). Wondering if your beloved is in the high risk category? Check out these major red flags (according to the study).

Factors associated with a high risk sexual partner:

*The partner had a problem with alcohol or marijuana.

*The partner had been in jail.

*The partner was at least five years older or younger.

*The partner had had sex with other people in the past year.

*The partner had had an STD in the past year.
