A workout with titillating side effects

Crazy lady hat optional

Any time you wake up to the image of your girlfriend working on her Downward Dog, you know it’s going to be a good day. But now there’s another reason to jump on the yoga bandwagon: A new University of British Columbia study found that yoga boosts sex drive and can lead to more powerful orgasms. Some yoga moves contribute to stronger pelvic floor muscles, which make sex delightful for everyone, but it’s yoga’s effect on the mind that has researchers buzzing. Because yoga requires you to be in the moment, followers are more present during sex and less likely to get preoccupied with daily stresses or distracting thoughts; yogis are also more likely to be in tune with their bodies, which makes it easier to become aroused and achieve more intense climaxes.

When it comes to exercise, I’m the kind of person that would rather run shrieking across a soccer field toward a terrified opponent than spend a little quiet time bending into positions with gentle animal names. If you’re like me, there’s good news: You can still reap the genital benefits of yoga by practicing the “in the moment” principle. A sample scenario: Let’s say you’ve just finished a hot bath after a long day of working for the man. When you step out of the tub, dry yourself off very slowly, as if that new towel you bought at Target is trying to seduce you. Focus on the physical sensations, and if your brain is interrupted by thoughts like “Am I out of milk?” or “I wonder if the cops will ever find that hooker I buried out in the desert,” then gently bring your mind back to the happy physical sensations. Do this several times a week and your mind and body will become more in tune. For further questions regarding yoga or tantric sex, please email Sting.

Thanks for the news (and the Sting zinger at the end), Courtney! It's no secret: Every I know who does yoga – male or female – reports better sex and orgasms as a result, and I've personally been at it for many years. I featured this article today in The Weekend Embrace. Please come have a look, and share the link: tinyurl.com/sextherapy Thanks! Love, Sarah
