Phillips de Pury & Company's Sex auction in London on March 19 features 221 nudes and sex-related works, with heavy emphasis on photography among a who's who of contemporary artists and some 20th century masters (see separate entry on the non-photography works for sale in the Sex auction, including works by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Takashi Murakami, among others).
The Sex auction includes images from photography masters Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Cindy Sherman, Robert Mapplethorpe, and more, alongside contemporary photography stars like Ryan McGinley, Nobuyoshi Araki, and Rankin (see slideshow below).
Heads up, new collectors: Some of the prints have an estimated value of as low as £200, a nice opportunity to buy your first pieces, while others will top out in the £60,000 range. The highest estimates belong to a Pierre Et Gilles portrait of Tiger Tyson (£40,000-60,000), Sarah Lucas's "Got a Salmon on in the Street #2" (£20,000-30,000), Helmut Newton's "Beverly Hills Hotel" (£20,000-30,000), and David LaChappelle's portrait of Rie Rasmussen for La Lingua (£15,000-25,000).
