MTV's 16 and Pregnant continues next week with a profile of teen parents Chelsea and Adam.
In this teaser clip we see the young parents struggling with the balance of responsibility right from day one: Adam wants to go hang out and see some muscle cars on the baby's first night home from the hospital.
We've yet to see many of the young fathers in this series step up to the plate, and that seems to be part of the message: Most girls who get pregnant as teens can expect to be going it without much support from their baby's father.
According to StayTeen.org and the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, 8 out of 10 dads with teenage partners don't marry the mother of their child, and most couples don't staty together at all after a teen pregnancy. The number of pregnant and parenting teens is on the rise for the first time, after more than 15 years of decline, and 3 out of 10 girls in the U.S. get pregnant before age 20. As StayTeen.org puts it in its 16 and Pregnant discussion guide:
It takes two people to get pregnant, but only one to prevent it. Be that one!
The series, a joint project from MTV and the Kaiser Family Foundation's It's Your Sex Life Campaign, is designed to help prevent teen and unplanned pregnancy and is presented in partnership with organizations including StayTeen.org, , LoveIsRespect.org, and the On Your Feet Foundation to help young people understand their options and make responsible decisions around issues involving sex, abstinence, birth control, pregnancy, adoption, teen parenting, and dating abuse. I can't help but watch this show and this was a good article about it.
You do have one tiny error you may want to fix: "and most couples don't "staty" together at all."
i myself was a 15yr old mother. when i saw this episode i cried. no other episode has made me cry. she is a very strong girl. and i wish the best for her and her BEAUTIFUL daughter! she made the best decision for her daughter by going to the lawyer to get her last name changed. she is beautiful and adam was ignorant to give her and that beautiful baby up!!
I think it was quite evident this baby was a way for her to try to keep this loser adam in her life. what a shame that this baby will be raised by an uneducated most likely highschool dropout.
i love this show and chelsea is one of my favorites. I think she is a great mom to abree, but i think adam is a jerK, chelsea and aubree deserve WAY better than him!!!
