The fashion world is buzzing with the rumors that Sarah Jessica Parker may be using her fashion powers to energize the Halston brand.
According to Women's Wear Daily, Parker is set to become the Creative Director for Halston's Heritage collection. There has yet to be confirmation from Parker's reps or Halston.
In a related story by the AP, stylist Mary Alice Stephenson commented, "If she [Parker] is to come to Halston, I know that she will do an incredible job and finally get the brand back to being a Halston that is respectful of Mr. Halston and his legacy but also move it forward to what women today want to wear."
Halston is considered a pioneer in the fashion world. The King of ultra suede and the shirtdress shook the fashion world when he dared to create for the masses. Halston's clothing line and fragrance collection for JCPenny's was deemed a disaster. While his fragrance line was a success, the alliance with JCPenny was controversial and it cost Halston business relationships. Today, designers seek out fashion discount houses and losing contracts with other businesses would be rare.
Of late, Halston has barely raised a blip on the fashion radar but with the addition of Parker, that should change. Parker's role as Carrie Bradshaw epitomized the life of a NYC gal with a flair for making great fashion choices. It remains to be seen if Parker can do the same for Halston.
