A fetish is a sexual attraction to an object or body part. This attraction can become so strong that it is required to be present or at least visualized for a person to get sexual satisfaction. A paraphilia is a medical term used to describe certain fetishes that become problematic to the person with the fetish or people they are involved with. Usually this becomes a problem when the sexual arousal for an object or body part is not mainstream. Fetishes or paraphilias differ from fantasies in that most fantasies are mental visualizations or parts of stories. For more on fantasies click here.
Media- the texture or feel of an object is what the fetish is about.
Form- this fetish type is focused on the shape of the object.
Animate- this fetish focuses on human body parts.
As with any fetish or paraphilia, if you find that your attraction to the object of your fetish starts interfering with your like and your relationships, you should seek out help. There are many counselors that are trained to help people manage their fetish and live happy normal lives.
