Chaz (formerly known as Chastity) Bono has always been openly active in LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) community. This brave individual has struggled with far more than most and should be applauded for his honesty with himself and everyone else. Now at forty he is under going the four to five year gender reassignment surgery to become a male.
In a recent interview on ABC he said 'Gender is between your ears not your legs' he has felt like one of the boys as far back as he can remember. He started his journey into adulthood as a lesbian.
In the beginning, his hardest hurdle was dealing with being in the public eye. He struggled a lot getting to this point. He has been an activist in the LGBT community for a long time, 'he is just more focused on the T than the L and the G'. For eight months he has been undergoing hormone treatment which has caused his voice to lower and he is now having to shave. He has also had surgery to remove his breast. This process generally takes 4 to 5 years.
He is getting to the point where, when he looks in the mirror he sees him more than ever before. That without a doubt has got to be a freeing feeling. All too often a person is gets lost in the expectations that society places on them because of their sex. If you are a large male you are expected to play football. If you are a petite female you are a cheerleader. Tall female you play volleyball or basketball. The list goes on and on. But for a person trapped in an outer shell that doesn't match the person inside, the world is like a prison.
Many people can easily slip into the gay, lesbian or bisexual role. LGBT has made great strides in making the public accept this lifestyle choice. But to change their body to match what they are inside is much more challenging. Yet the American Psychological society still estimates 1 out of 30000 females have had a sex change.
As we continue to grow as a society both technological and in understanding there is little doubt this number will increase. Each person has their own personal demons to deal with, but if Chaz is any example, when a person is brave enough to be honest with themselves and make the changes to themselves that helps them feel right inside and out, they become the happiest they have ever been.

Very sad for this girl. She was such an adorable little thing on her parents show, sad to see her slip into such utter depravity. God forgive them.
