What does it mean if the designer is taller than her model? I had to pause the show tonight, slack-jawed. I had never noticed that before. Yes, I had noticed that Althea was tall. I just had not really understood that she could have entered the fashion world on the model side of things as well. The woman has it all. I hope she knows now what I (finally) know, 30 years later. Run with it hun. Okay. I had to get that out of the way. Yes, I have height envy.
Tim was adorable crossing his arms and grabbing his chin, all in a huff and concerned about start times. I can only assume that there must be some pretty hard and fast rules about how much time is alloted to the Project Runway slot at Bryant Park. Yowza!
Irina was our winner, and she did deserve it. Of course, so did the other ladies. This was a very strong season finale, showcasing all three designers' talents and quirky personalities very well. There was no one off in the weeds. Consider how young these designers are as well. Althea and Carol Hannah, just out of school at 24 years old, and our "old timer" of the bunch, Irina at 27 years old. If this is what we see from these designers right out of school, we have seen the start of some exceptionally talented designers. No one suffered from the student disease of over-designing. All gave us tight and inspired shows.

Irina, oh how I wished you had listened to Nina. Of course it was too late to do too much but toss add-ons into the mix by the time Ms Garcia uttered those words. Most likley it would have simply worked against her looks. I am still left wondering what some of those pieces actually looked like, because they were lost in the depths of their blackness. Her armor theme was nothing new, but she executed it beautifully, right down to her "surprise challenge's" thirteenth look of a meticulously scuptured and layered skirt. I'd wear all of them—just not in black. I would have loved to have seen all those hard armor looks in earthy colors: faded rose, moss, and chocolate brown to start. Black, as I have said before, is the great excuse color. She did a great job pulling together her T-shirt disaster, and in fact they were much improved by the intervention of the distaster. Daddy seemed appropriately proud. I hope that got miss Shabayeva what she needed, but frankly, I am in the same camp as Chris March on this one. As one who could be your mom, I say, here lies madness. Never proceed through life on a mission to gain the love and approval of anyone. A-n-y-o-n-e.
Althea gave us a lovely set of designs that would be snapped up in an instant at any high-end shop (hello, Goga?). I have to agree with the judges that there was no sci-fi in the line at all, but that may have been due to Tim scaring her off of the evocative stuff. He was over-the-top negative about that great jacket she was working on. Althea, I wish you had not ratcheted back quite so far. I loved that jacket. Shoulda run with it. Even with the absence of a science fiction theme (did it need it? Themes can be pretty arificial anyway), it was a great line marrying character and elegance into a great big ready-made wardrobe. Huge cheers and backstage hugs ought to go to her model Tanisha, for being able to walk in her amazingly simple-yet not simple, stunning beige gown. That was a real showstopper that had beautiful lines and seams. If only Heidi had worn that gown for all the promo pics instead of that weirdly cut red gown. Oh, and Althea, could you send me that sweater with the extra long sleeves?

Look at the well-earned holes in her hose. Those are the

Carol Hannah, it's a good thing that I already bought your Dance With Me dress when your stuff went on "episode winner" sale. There is not a chance that you are going to be able to keep it on the shelves after tonight's airing. What a great show. I am not sure that the judges were looking at your looks very closely. I am not sure how they could say that there was not a cohesive thread there. The draping, the softness, and the little bits of fairy trim were evident in all the looks, especially in that short, flouncy ombré-dyed number. Even the cameraman fell in love with it enough to give us a nice long bouncy ass-shot. It was all of a piece. It had a theme. I wish you had been healthier and better able to defend your looks. They were all professional quality. I could see the progression from your show at Charleston Fashion Week for emerging designers. I saw the fey in full force in that show, and in this you successfully married your signature soft and organic fairy look to architecture. That's not an easy feat.
Unlike pervious seasons, we are likely to see all three of these designers build successful fashion careers. I may not have agreed with Lifetime producers on a desiger cut or two (Oh Gordana!!!), but I can see how these ladies have a lot of future in them. You go Girls!
