Examples of the longevity revolution featured at first Thursday art walk in NW Portland.

As we age a great many parts of human physiology are subject to deterioration. Nicely enough our ability to be creative is not one of them. In fact as we age our creative side expands, becomes deeper and more profound. As a part of the longevity revolution seniors are getting in touch with a creative side that has been put on hold or are able to devote more time and energy to expanding on endeavors they have only participated marginally.

The Geezer Gallery
, a not for profit organization that is just getting started, is devoted to supporting senior art in Portland.

First Thursday Art Walk features The Geezer Gallery Guerrilla Art Show

According to Rachael Lorenz, Public Relations, The Geezer Gallery:

The Sheldon Cooperative, Life by Design NW, and The Geezer Gallery have created a partnership that highlights the work of The Geezer Gallery’s contributing artists.

One of several accomplished artists who will be exhibiting works is painter Mitch Freifeld. Freifeld’s muse is Old Portland, the forgotten architecture, lunch places, interesting doorways and porticos. Freifeld uses the term 'disassembly' when describing his approach to painting: taking something ordinary down to its smallest element, making it more interesting. A slant on reality.

Also contributing to the exhibition is accomplished artist Sidonie Caron. She is an eclectic painter who reflects with vivid interpretation the influences of travel and environment.

Revered installation artist Rex Silvernail will show works that are themselves manifestations of the world he observes. The main materials used in his constructions are commonly associated with industrial applications.

Bill Rutherford will be exhibiting new as well as earlier works during the Guerrilla Art Show. A self-taught African American artist whose works are in collections from New York to California, Bill is also a respected exhibits designer.

Other well-accomplished artists exhibiting works include Humberto Gonzales, Yolanda Valdez, Madeline Meza Janovec, George Broderick, Chuck Castro, and Suzanne Turfenkian.
