Do you live in the happiest state in America? Well, New York is the state you call home, you live in the least happiest state according to The Huffington Post. The government tops the list as to why the residents of New York are so unhappy. One residents described the government as "...currupt, self-dealing and too quick to raise taxes."
It is no secret that New York has had a troubled government for sometime now. Constantly cutting funds from well needed programs for children and the elderly. They have had difficulty passing a budget in a timely fashion and one that is functional. The lack of governmental leadership trickles right down to the county level.
Just recently it was announced that a local nursing home, Waterfront Health Care Center would be closing mainly due to Medicaid cut backs that happen year after year. This might be the fate of another area nursing home whose population is mostly Medicaid. What happens to all the residents who will have to be moved? Will they be moved to another facility? Will they over crowd other nursing home? Overcrowding can lead to neglect of those that are truly in need of the care that the facility is supposed to provide. What about the people who will not have a job because these closing?
As someone who works in a long term care setting, it is extremely sad to know that those who can not speak or care for themselves are being forgotten.
