Road Trippin' by Steve McCarthy
"This book is a compilation of my monthly column on Road Trips. It's all about exploring the back roads of the west coast, from California up to Washington, and as far east as Arizona and New Mexico. It's about finding the funky stuff. Odd mom and pop eateries, tiny little motels, weird tourist stops. It's about going back in time, to an era when the highway embraced each small town, rather than avoiding them. It's about a rosy glow of nostalgia that wraps itself around you like a warm blanket on a cold, rainy day. It's about roads so remote, they don't bother to paint a center line! It's about rediscovering the diversity of America before Big Box Corporate Homogenization. It's about letting St. Serendipity guide you on your journey."

Interview with Steve McCarthy
Examiner: How long have you been writing, Steve?
Steve: I've been writing a magazine column on Road Trips, called, funny enough, Road Trippin' since 2006. I'm also a regular contributor to Garage Style Magazine, and have even written reviews of teaching materials for the College Board, and wrote a piece for the Ohio Council for the Social Studies Review.
Examiner: What made you decide to become a self-publisher?
Steve: A good first place to start in todays world.
Examiner: How long have you been self-publishing?
Steve: This is my first one: I started putting it together last fall and published it in March.
Examiner: Have you written any other books?
Steve: None so far.
Examiner: Are you looking for an agent or publisher?
Steve: Not actively, but I would like to get to that point some day.
Examiner: How many books do you sell in a month/year?
Steve: I've sold about 80 since March and am in 6 bookstores so far.
Examiner: What do you think is the hardest part about self-publishing?
Steve: The marketing. That takes a huge amount of time and a very thick skin.
Examiner: What kind of advice do you have for new writers?
Steve: READ! READ! READ! Then WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! Then WRITE SOME MORE!
Examiner: Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
Steve: I've been married for 30 years, have taught high school history for 30 plus, enjoy my model railroad and wroking on my 1960 Triumph TR3 sports car, play the bag pipes, have a fine art photography buisiness, and used to sing Gilbert and Sullivan Opera.
