'The OCD Project' premieres Thursday, May 27th at 10 P.M on VH1.

In VH1's new show sufferers of obsessive-compulsive disorder are urged to push through their worst fears and break their compulsions.

Under the care of Dr. David Tolin and a medical supervision crew, six participants of "The OCD Project" move into a house for three weeks to undergo an extreme treatment process known as Exposure and Response Prevention, founded on the principle that obsessive-compulsive disorder can be conquered through repeated and prolonged exposure to feared situations, activities or thoughts.

A show hoping to have a positive message and impact on society, VH1's "The OCD Project" is described as a non-exploitative documentary-style series. The producers hope to raise awareness about obsessive-compulsive disorder and demonstrate that there is treatment available to improve a sufferer's daily life.

From the press release: Exposure and Response Prevention is widely recognized as a best practice for the treatment of OCD. In this program, a group of OCD patients will live under one roof throughout the course of therapy to address the illness and provide round-the-clock support for each other. The Exposure and Response Prevention approach can appear severe and horrifying but viewers will ultimately see why these highly intelligent, creative and empathetic participants whose lives are spiraling out of control need to undergo such harsh treatment. The series will chronicle each participant's journey into the debilitating doubts that consume their lives and witness the amazing transformations this treatment can provide. At the end of the three weeks, not all participants will have completed the program but find support and tools to use as they work to overcome their compulsions.

The series emphasizes the belief that the sufferers of OCD should have hope that their lives can change.

Dr. David Tolin has been frequently seen on The Today Show, Good Morning America and The Oprah Winfrey Show and also was a featured expert on the A&E television series Hoarders.

"The OCD Project" is executive produced by JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson, Adam Greener and Matt Assmus for 3 Ball Productions. Jeff Olde, Jill Holmes, and Noah Pollack are executive producers for VH1.

Produced by 3 Ball Productions.

Thank you for your recent article on the OCD Project. More than 2 million adult Americans suffer from OCD. In an effort to better understand this common disorder, Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute is conducting a study to examine possible genetic contributions to OCD. The study is sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health.

We are looking for individuals with OCD who would be interested in participating. Participation involves a 2-3 hour interview and a blood/saliva sample for DNA. We also ask that family members (parents or siblings) provide a blood/saliva sample for DNA. Individuals with OCD are compensated $75 for their interview and DNA sample, and family members receive $35 for their DNA sample. Study procedures can take place in the home or at our medical center.

If you would like to help us gain a deeper understanding of OCD, you may contact Columbia University research staff at 212-543-5364 or e-mail CUOCGAS@gmail.com. Confidentiality is
