60 year old Nashville man shoots home invader in self defense

A Nashville, TN man used his gun to fend off two robbers who broke into his home Saturday night.

Police say that two robbers broke in to the man's home on Lindy Murff Ct.  The homeowner grabbed his self defense gun and shot one of the home invaders in the chest.  Both criminals then fled to a nearby gas station, and tried to claim that they were themselves the victims of a robbery.  The wounded criminal was taken to a local hospital, and is expected to survive and face charges.  The unwounded criminal has been arrested.  The homeowner was unharmed.

Once again, we have a situation where violent criminals decided to break into the home of an innocent person, because they cared more about making an easy dollar than the safety and wellbeing of the home owner.  Luckily, this man had a self defense gun, and was able to use it to put an end to the home invasion, saving himself from the deadly threat these two criminals posed.  Nashville also owes this home owner a debt of gratitude, since he has ensured that two home invading criminals will be prosecuted and taken off the streets.

The fact that so many people in Texas are armed has to be a deterrence to home invaders. I can only imagine how many home invasions there would be if the right to keep and bear arms was somehow circumvented. The police try to keep the predators from doing their thing, but the police can't be everywhere all the time.

Eric, you are doing a fine thing here. Keep up the good work.

Great job! Now if we could just get the rest of the creeps out off the streets so America's children can once again experience sweet and carefree moments like I did, rather than spending all their time avoiding killers, punks, perverts and other deviants...

The Outsider - I agree - Emptying whatever you are using is more likely to ensure your survival, save taxpayer money, AND give you that needed target practice. Those punks don't want to play by the rules so I don't see any reason why they should be allowed to play anymore.

There are more home invasions in the anti-gun states (Maryland, New Jersey, New York) than the ones that are not (Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas). Don't you think the thugs are smart enough to make sure they are the only ones armed?

TheOutsider: Wrong and Dumb. Tennessee law on lethal force in self defense requires you to do the minimum to stop the threat. If you keep shooting while they flee, or otherwise empty the mag, you can be in a world of hurt legally.
i wasn't there, and the story doesn't have enough information for me to monday-morning quarterback the homeowner's actions. However, it sounds like a good shoot, and as an added benefit the homeowner doesn't have to agonize over killing someone, even though it would probably have been legally justified.

    Regards,
    Pol

Interesting. Technically in North Carolina where I live, a home invader is not considered a deadly threat legally unless he refuses to leave the premises (as explained to me by a police officer) so technically, our homeowner above would face some severe legal issues if he didn't give the guys a chance to leave first.

Getting criminals off the streets is the right emphasis. In other places like New York or Chicago, the emphasis is in getting GUNS off the streets, which never works.
