RENTON, WA -- Once a back up in Seattle, Seneca Wallace may have a shot at competing for a starting job.

Wallace has been reunited with former Seahawk coach and new General Manager of Cleveland Mike Holmgren in a trade that sent Wallace to Cleveland for an undisclosed 2011 draft pick, the Seahawks announced Monday.

Holmgren has a history for eyeballing quarterback talent. After leaving Green Bay to come to Seattle, Holmgren acquired Matt Hasselbeck from the Packers. That has led to a fantastic career for Hasselbeck in a Seahawk uniform after being the back up for Brett Favre.

That trend could be in Wallace's favor. One day after the trade, the Browns released former starting quarterback Derek Anderson, who then insulted the Browns' fans by stating that they "don't deserve a winner." Anderson has since apologized for his remarks. This leaves just Wallace, Brady Quinn and whoever else Holmgren decides to bring in to compete for the starting job.

As far as the Seahawks are concerned, the departure of Wallace could be good news for the great unknown talent that is Mike Teel, the Seahawks 6th round pick from a year ago from Rutgers, now finds himself currently in the No. 2 hole.

Teel, a 6-3, 230 pounder, threw for 3,418 yards and 25 touchdowns during his senior year at Rutgers. He compiled a 96.5 QB rating as well.

The Seahawks aren't saying whether they feel Teel is the quarterback of the future and many experts feel the Seahawks will be eyeing top quarterback talent in the upcoming draft.

Let me know what you think: Now that Wallace has been traded, should the Seahawks put more emphasis on the quarterback position in the upcoming draft or should they continue to focus on the battered offensive line?

Would love to see Iupati's toughness here at 14.
Heck even if we got lucky and Okung was there at 6.
Give me both instant upgrade on run toughness.
Unforntunately I don't see that happening.
So I'm hoping with the zone blocking that might help us in taking Iupati; even though it might be a little high.
I BET BOTH PICK ARE DEFFENSE THOUGH. BERRY AND GRIFFEN ARE FITS.
    BERRY,

In regards to Seneca I had a bet when Holmgren went to Cleveland Seneca would be next. I myself would have liked to see him succeed Hasselback here. Not a fan of trade, but happy for Seneca.

I thought Teel played exceptionally well last preseason. Maybe they do really like what he can do.

From Seattle Times (Yawn) Danny O'Neil Blog:

"Baker, 30, is an eight-year NFL veteran, who played last season for New England. He caught 14 passes in 2009 and was released March 4, just before free agency began. Baker played seven seasons for the New York Jets from 2002-2008 after being chosen in the third round out of Michigan State. He caught a career-high 41 passes for the Jets in 2007.....Baker's deal will be for two years for $4.75 million, with more than half to be paid in the first year according to ESPN, which first reported the agreement."

My first thought was $4.75 million dollars for a guy that caught 14 passes... the Seahawks must be FnNuts, however this makes better sense than the proposed Brandon Marshall deal when you consider it from a whole team perspective. Marshall would be a 1,000 yard receiver, as opposed to a typical 800 yard receiver, that's only a 200 yard difference over the season, divided by 16 games it equals 12.5 yards per game (not a big improvement

I think Mike Teel is going to be a great starting QB in three or four years. The only problem is that I think it is going to be for a team other than the Seahawks. Mike was drafted during the Tim Ruskell era and I don't think Pete Carroll or John Schneider is going to ever give him a legitimate chance at being a starter. That's too bad because he's a very talented player; the Seahawks will probably trade him and then end up kicking themselves in the butt when he is playing great for another team.
