Still 6 games away, the realization that the season is all but over has yet to sink in. The only thing keeping me going is the excitement of next year, and the new faces it will bring. No one is content with playing the role of spoiler as Mike Holmgren has reluctantly pushed the Seahawks to accept as a way to improve during the final games of the season. However the season has brought a silver lining: An early draft pick. My co-Seahawks specialist, Mike Baldwin, has turned his attention to draft possibilities as well.The last time the Seahawks had a pick that was decently early was back in 2003. We had the 11th overall pick and used it on cross-state hometown hero Marcus Trufant, who has blossomed into one of the best on and off the field Hawks ever.
So who will the 2009 NFL draft bring to Seattle? Here is a list of the top 5 prospects that the Seattle Seahawks should consider.
1. QB, Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
True, he is only a redshirt sophomore. However in his first year Bradford led the Sooners to a victory in the Big 12 championship, and finished the year ranked #3, and 10 games into his second year he has a passer rating of 188, has thrown for 3,406 yards and has 38 touchdowns. All of this comes with 4 other teams in his division ranked in the top 25, not including Nebraska.
2. WR, Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech
This year proved that the Seahawks are in need of a young wide receiver. Bobby Engram is getting up there in age, and Deion Branch can’t stay healthy. Crabtree is the best wide-out available in the draft, and will be ready to play come week 1 of the 2009 NFL season.
3. OT, Michael Oher, Ole Miss
After declaring for the 2008 NFL Draft, Michael Oher decided to come back for his senior year increasing his strength and skill.Walter Jones will be 35 next year, and our offensive line has been struggling. I think Oher will be a top 5 pick, but if he falls into the hawks hands he could definitely prove to be the future of the O-line.
4. OT, Eugene Monroe, Virginia
If Michael Oher isn’t available Eugene Monroe is another worthy top 5 pick. Not allowing a single sack in 2007, Monroe earned an honorable mention on the All-ACC team.
5. DE, Brian Orakpo, Texas
The Hawks could select Orakpo for no other reason than he’s a freak of nature. Through his first nine games of 2008 he registered 8.5 sacks in the rugged Big 12. He would bring a much needed burst of enthusiasm to an already deep defense.

I think they should get a QB. Hass still has a few years left and a few years of learning will benefit a new QB.
I like the picks but if Taylor Mays of USC enters the draft, this would be a safe pick at #5. Also a safety with his size and speed would help add size to our small defense.
