Today, Scream Franchise Examiner takes a look at the faces of Scream 4.
The following is a breakdown of character descriptions and the actors who will (most likely) fill those roles…
Emma Roberts will play Jill Kessler. Character description: Pretty in an ingenue way. Smart, strong. A little goofy, but she makes it sexy. Full of contradictions, but instantly likeable. Not a mean bone in her body. They're not close, but Jill is Sidney's cousin.
Hayden Panettiere will play Kirby Reed. Character description: Cute and quirky, was a tomboy until a year ago, now she's alternative, cool and sexy. Jill's best friend. She's a pop culture and horror aficionado.
Rory Culkin will play Charlie Walker. Character description: Messy cute. Friends with Jill, Trevor, Kirby... A little cocky, he likens himself to 'Randy' from Scream 1 without the nerd part. No such luck, he's definitely a nerd. May or may not have a crush on Jill. He'd never admit it if he does.
Nico Tortorella will play Trevor Sheldon. Character description: Handsome high school jock, but quiet and intense, as though a secret hangs over his head.
Lake Bell will play Deputy Judy Hicks. Character description: A police officer, decidedly sexy but a bit off, she knew Sidney from high school. Didn't make a big enough impression for Sidney to remember her. Likes her boss, Dewey, perhaps a little too much.
Other notable characters, though casting has not yet been confirmed:
Bette: Sidney's personal assistant. Type A who gets the job done. Secretly yearns for Sidney's fame and fortune.
Rebecca: Cute, vain, over-achieving student at Woodsboro High School. Editor in Chief of the high school newspaper. She's a future Gale Weathers.

What does this tell us?
First, Scream 4 will be an ensemble that features both veteran actors (Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox & David Arquette) from the original trilogy and a core group of teenaged newcomers who will carry audiences through the new trilogy—so long as they survive.
Second, the Prescott family is still very much at the center of the action. Roberts’ role has been described as being the protagonist of the new trilogy, and much like the Halloween series shifted its focus from Jamie Lee Curtis’s character to a family member, Roberts will assume the Prescott baton from Neve Campbell’s Sidney.
Third, Sidney Prescott has come out of isolation. The fact that she has an assistant and possesses both fame & fortune alludes to a high profile career, and director Wes Craven has confirmed as much, stating that the character has written a well-received book and re-entered the world that she once shunned out of fear.
Fourth, Deputy Dwight “Dewey” Riley and reporter Gale Weathers, who became engaged in Scream 3, have returned to Woodsboro. Dewey, who served as a technical advisor to the film “Stab 3,” has rejoined the police department and now holds a supervisory position. Additionally, Courteney Cox has said that her character will be a mother in the fourth film.
Fifth, many of the new characters pay homage to their predecessors. For instance, both Charlie Walker and Kirby Reed share some distinct similarities with Randy (Charlie is a nerd who may or may not have a crush on the leading lady and Kirby is a pop culture and horror aficionado), and Rebecca is described as “a future Gale Weathers.”
Sixth, in the tradition of the previous Scream films, the studio is looking to cast famous faces in cameo roles. One rumor that recently took the Internet by storm was that Jennifer Aniston would appear as the famed opening sequence victim as a favor to her former Friends co-star Courteney Cox, though this theory has been widely debunked.
And remember: the filmmakers have admitted leaking false information to the press in the past, so take what you hear with a healthy dose of skepticism…
