Talking Shop: Ever After Scrapbooks, Vista

Ever After's Scrappin' Mobile

San Diego is HOT right now, so much so one could say it’s sizzlin’! In order to beat the heat, lots of scrappers and paper craft enthusiasts are flocking to Ever After Scrapbooks in Vista to enjoy their hot classes and cool special guests. For instance, this Saturday Leah Fung is teaching two awesome classes using a uniquely inventive technique – paperclip art! Her morning class on Saturday is her Paperclip Wall Calendar and the afternoon class is titled Summer Fun Paperclip Wall Décor. Be sure to contact Ever After at (760) 630-2767 ASAP to reserve a seat at one or both of these classes.

Speaking of staying cool, the class on Saturday is just the tip of the iceberg. Ever After Scrapbook owner, Camille Akin, says she and her cool crew have lots and lots of activities and events planned this summer and into the fall. Many special guest artists teach at Ever After including Cheryl McAdam from Tattered Angels, Marah Johnson from Creative Imaginations, as mentioned earlier Leah Fung, and their very own Downtown Heather Brown. There’s even talk about a Mr. Tim Holtz coming to Ever After in the near future, so be sure to sign up for their newsletter and visit their website often for all the updated information.

During the Sizzlin’ Summer Line Up Marah Johnson’s scheduled to teach a Rock-A-Bye Baby mini album class on August 2 and Cheryl McAdams will be back on August 22 with another creative Tattered Angels project. On August 29 My Mind’s Eye will be in the house teaching a class with their new Abbey Road paper line, so full of cheerful colors and fun patterns.

Special events seem to be Ever After’s middle name. The store is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year and they’re kicking off that celebration with the best sale on the block Saturday, August 1, starting at 8:00 a.m. The word on the street is that EVERYthing is at least 25% off, with clearance items going for a 70% discount and new clearance items being added at 50% off regular price. If that’s not enticing enough, early bird shoppers will also receive a spectacular goody bag, too!

An Ever After event that is near and dear to this author’s heart is their 8th annual Survivor Crop, with all proceeds benefitting the San Diego affiliate of Komen for the Cure. To date, Ever After’s Survivor Crops have raised awareness about breast cancer research and $290,000 for this worthy cause. There will be 24 hours of scrapbooking fun and, of course, loads of contests, games, entertainment, goodies, food and FUN are in store for all participants at the October 17-18, 2009 event. Get a group together and “outscrap, outlast and outraise” other “tribes” during this television-Survivor-themed weekend. Be a part of this very special event by signing up online at www.scrapbooks.info.

“Don’t overbuy,” is Camille’s advice to new scrapbookers. “I know this isn’t the advice you’d expect from a store owner, but I want to build a positive relationship with both my new and long-standing customers.” There is a useful sign inside the shop entitled Five Steps To Getting Started and it guides those new to scrapbooking to get the basics, making sure they’re good quality, before indulging too much in all the wonderful embellishments, tools, papers, and all the rest of the incredible product available at Ever After. She also highly encourages bringing in works-in-progress to ensure customers get just the right items to create the perfect album or project. Her staff is always available to help both new and veteran scrappers. Camille’s kernel of wisdom for experienced scrappers is to “try before you buy” and encourages customers to come in and get a demo on any of the latest and greatest tools on the market, to make sure their investment is an educated one.

Camille believes that scrapbooking and paper crafting at Ever After Scrapbooks makes a “stay-cation” the perfect alternative to a pricey vacation this year. Why not bring an unfinished project or two to the HUGE Studio C at Ever After, and during non-class times use the space at no charge to complete the album that’s sat in the closet for a year? Get a Crop-n-Create Card for free and for every 40 hours of crop time spent at Ever After Scrapbooks earn $10 in store credit, so it literally PAYS one to crop. How can that be beat?! Stay at Ever After this summer and take a class with any of the top-notch instructors and learn a thing or two to enhance one’s creativity plus meet lots of fellow scrappers and make new friends.

School’s out for summer and moms are looking for some fun ways to entertain the kids. Look no further than Ever After’s Kids’ Camps. Two sessions are offered this summer. The first is July 28 and 30 and the second is August 4 and 6. “This long-standing tradition at Ever After is always a crowd pleaser,” says Camille, and is designed for children 6-years old and above. Each child will learn scrapbooking techniques and have lots of fun paper crafting their very own “What I Love About Summer” album, plus a home décor project, during the two-day program. Pizza lunch is included, too! The cost of a session is only $45 and space is limited, so be sure to contact the store for reservations and more details.

If all of this hasn’t enlightened readers to why Ever After Scrapbooks in Vista is the place to be creative, be inspired and enjoy friends both old and new, Camille states there are at least seven very special things that set Ever After apart:

1. Both themed and generic sections for every category imaginable, organized and easy to use.
2. Special ordering products is no problem.
3. Huge variety of classes are available from card making to home décor.
4. The Crop-n-Create Card – a frequent cropper card that earns points toward store credit!
5. Ten years of experience, plus friendly and knowledgeable staff that are passionate about their craft.
6. Extensive die-cutting center that’s great for any project.
7. Convenient store hours that fit everyone’s schedule – open seven days a week and open late.

Camille strives to “keep things fresh” and create a positive experience for all of her customers. Ever After Scrapbooks has a home-away-from-home atmosphere, which is perfect for nurturing creative crafts to decorate one’s real home. She feels that handmade gifts will continue to be very popular this year and include homemade Christmas cards, place settings for the holidays, creative calendars as gifts and many, many home décor projects to brighten and decorate her customers’ homes or for them to give as gifts. Camille chooses classes and instructors that offer customers fresh ideas and gets them interested in the latest paper crafting trends. The upcoming holidays are the perfect time to be creative and enjoy all that scrapbooking and paper crafts have to offer.

And even though Camille admitted to having a diet shake for lunch, she smiled broadly when asked about her favorite cookie. “Peanut butter,” was her enthusiastic response, “a good one!” Camille’s definition of a good peanut butter cookie is “one that uses chunky peanut butter and is soft, but not too soft, sort of crispy, but not too crispy.” So, if peanut butter cookies are a favorite, or even if the preference tends toward something else, go visit Ever After Scrapbooks in Vista and mention “peanut butter cookie” because that phrase will earn the speaker a coupon for a FREE Moonlight Crop, a $10 value! Don’t delay as this chunky offer ends September 30. One coupon per cookie lover and some restrictions may apply. Enjoy the rest of this sizzlin’ San Diego summer in the cool comfort of Ever After Scrapbooks!
