Scrappin' Escape summer retreat a success

Keeping cool while cropping at Scrappin' Escape's Summer Retreat

Nearly 60 scrapbook enthusiasts beat the heat when they attended Scrappin’ Escapes San Diego Summer Retreat on August 21-23, 2009 at the Town and Country Resort and Spa in Mission Valley. Outside the temperature rose to triple digits, but inside the huge Cropper’s Hall (or banquet room for the non-scrappers in the crowd) the atmosphere was nothing but cool pleasure and creativity galore!

Jessica Studer, owner of Scrappin’ Escapes and organizer of this awesome event, made sure no item was left behind when it came to tools, kits, and the best scrapbook supplies for sale by a variety of vendors. The system worked flawlessly! A computer, printer and Cricut machines were available for any scrapper to use. It was fun to see how many people actually brought their own gadgets, tools and machinery. These ladies leave no stone unturned when it comes to the serious business of all-day cropping!

And speaking of getting busy with the cropping – participants at this San Diego event came from all over the United States; Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Texas were all represented. Mother/daughter and girlfriend teams worked together to finish some incredible layouts and projects. Jessica organized lots of contests and games that everyone had a great time playing and winning.

Lots of cold beverages and snacks were always available, and Starbucks runs were made on occasion, whenever caffeine infusions became necessary. The meals were delicious, provided by some popular restaurants in the San Diego area.

Incredible classes were also available when croppers needed to take a break from their own projects, or for anyone who wished to enroll in the classes as a stand-alone activity (one needn’t be a retreat participant to take advantage of these outstanding classes). Stephanie Ackerman and Leah Fung were among the well-known instructors on hand. Stephanie presented two heartwarming, vintage-filled classes; “ Home Sweet Home” and “Family Memories”. Leah’s “Girlfriends” album was a unique project filled with great embellishments and new techniques. “Ten Pages in Three Hours” was a layout class hosted by Vanessa Velasco and Nicole Capote presented a “Good Old Summertime” mini album project.

If all this sounds fantastic, and you wish you’d have attended, it’s really not too late! Scrappin’ Escapes is hosting an autumn weekend retreat and creative holiday event on November 13-15, 2009 at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego. If it’s cold and snowy where you live in November, head to sunny southern California for a weekend of creative pleasure. Don’t miss out – get your scrappy friends, relatives and neighbors together and register right away!
