Another successful year is under Colorful Creations’ belt for their widely popular, sold out event called Crop on the Cape. This is the Hyannis, MA store’s third year hosting it solo, and the Colorful Creations Team, led by owner Jayne Irving, did a wicked good job! And, by the {first time ever} sold out status of this year’s event, more than 260 lucky attendees believed this to be true.
The early birds started their weekend on Thursday, with many croppers checking in that afternoon and setting up their spaces for the ultimate scrapping adventure. The ways in which folks laid out their space was impressive, to say the least. Cricuts of every shape and size were plugged in and humming, shelving systems that rivaled the New York City Library were installed, and about a million storage containers in every shape and size were stacked to fit each cropper’s individual needs. Impressive! Thankfully, the grand ballroom of the Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis, MA is a BIG place and easily accommodated this architectural feat. By Saturday all 260+ participants were installed and scrapping away, creating layouts, ATCs, cards, mini-albums and a huge array of papercrafts of all kinds.
Throughout the weekend a wide variety of interesting and well-attended classes were taught by some of the most talented instructors around. From doodling to New England layouts to constructing campy mini-albums and all occasion cards, all sorts of creativity was harbored at this famous Cape Cod event. Core'dinations design team member Melissa Oliviera taught this author how to doodle, a technique that always intrigues and often bewilders folks. She made it seem effortless and gave simple, useful tips to help participants easily incorporate the technique into their layouts, cards or any other papercrafting project. Jenn Shurkus, of Amuse fame, told wonderful stories while guiding her Let’s Get Campy students in building a black chipboard mini-album whose pages were simple and coordinated, and used lots of fun techniques that fit perfectly the outdoorsy theme of the album. Celebrity instructor Cheryl Mezzetti of Creative Imaginations hosted a class highlighting page layouts that featured a New England theme, perfect for a crop on the Cape {Cod}.
There were contests, games and give-aways throughout the event. A mobile version of the awesome Colorful Creations store was available on-site so shopping for stuff that was both needed and desired was easily accessible, including Crop on the Cape 2010 t-shirts, papers and embellishments. Several other vendors were located on site as well, showing off their products and services. Paper Made Bakery gave everyone in attendance a handmade gift tag and discount coupon to use at their new online Fresh Baked Kit club. One participant (will have) discovered she won a FREE kit of her choice when she turns over the Paper Made Bakery flyer inside her glassine bag. If you’re a COTC 2010 participant and haven’t checked out the goody bag tucked inside the blue folder received at registration, you might be the winner! If you are, contact Paper Made Bakery and collect your prize. Everyone can use the coupon for a fabulous discount, too.
All in all there were 60 hours of non-stop enjoyment and cropping available to the lucky participants of this year’s sold-out Crop on the Cape 2010. If you weren’t one of the lucky ones, mark your calendar for next year’s event scheduled for March 17 – March 20, 2011 at the same great location. More information will be available in Colorful Creations’ newsletter on their website and blog, and registration is scheduled to begin mid-November 2010. Bundle up and enjoy a creative retreat on Cape Cod with Colorful Creations.
