Republicans will lose many seats in Congress due to right-wing paranoia about the Census and refusal to fill out census forms, gloats the liberal web site Daily Kos.
The number of Congressional districts a state gets is based on how many of its citizens return completed census forms. Because voters in conservative states are completing and returning census forms at lower rates than voters in liberal states, conservative states will lose many seats in the House of Representatives that they would otherwise gain due to increases in their population.
Republican-leaning "Red States" will also lose out on billions of dollars in federal funds, which are apportioned based largely on population.
Unlike many things the federal government does, the Census is expressly authorized by the explicit language of the Constitution. (As a believer in free markets, limited government, and the Constitution, I have criticized some of the legislation backed by the Obama Administration as being unconstitutional and beyond Congress's enumerated powers. But the Census and the questions it asks are perfectly constitutional, even though some of those questions may seem unnecessary).
A few white Census respondents are stupidly listing their race as "human" or "some other race" rather than white. Many commenters at the conservative website Free Republic say they will just refuse to report their race on their Census forms, viewing it as irrelevant.
This inaccurate reporting of racial information may unintentionally prolong racial set-aside programs that are obsolete and no longer necessary. By making the white percentage of the population appear smaller than it in fact is, such responses can make it easier for the federal government to get away with racial quotas, which are based on so-called disparity studies, which measure the supposed gap between racial percentages in the population and racial percentages in awards of government contracts. Under Supreme Court rulings like the 1987 Paradise decision, quotas are supposed to be used only as a "last resort" and for no longer than absolutely necessary. But faulty census data can give them a new lease on life, even when they serve no valid purpose, and enforce, rather than remedy, discrimination.

Liberals do fill out their census more than conservatives do. Liberals are more intelligent than conservatives.
I hate to take the wind out of the sails of the liberals, but a recent study conducted at our prestigious university indicated that the average I.Q. of a Republican is 36 points higher than that of a Democrat. This is due in large part to the fact that the Democrat base consists of low income, under educated individuals. Don't kill the messenger, just passing along some pertinent information.

Actually, what I think you're going to see is a shift in population away from the 'progressive states' like California, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, etc...people are finding out that they don't like being taxed to death, and progressive policies always lead to just that. These states are dying. The only wild card is the truthfulness with which the census data will be collected and reported. Remember, Barack Huessein Obama moved responsibility for the census into the White House and under the purview of Rahm 'I like looking at naked men in the shower' Emanuel.

If they don't fill out their forms, the census bureau sends out a live body to do the survey. These would be the 800,000 workers Obama is going to hire to lower unemployment this summer amd proclaim the stimulus is working.

The Daily Kos overstates the issue, but the basic premise holds true. I live in a southern state (and am a temporary worker for the census bureau), and I have seen quite a few instances of good ole boys giving the census people grief for having the temerity to ask 10 questions (none particularly intrusive or personal), with responses ranging from hostility to outright refusal to answer. By completing the form mailed to them, conservatives will avoid having census workers showing up on their doorstep or calling them on the phone to get a response, and save the government a bundle in the meantime. (Temporary workers get paid anywhere from $7.00 to over $20/hour, depending on where they live.) The census is something that is constitutionally mandated, and every census has included questions about race (prior to the civil war to reduce the apportionment figures for disenfranchised slaves, and in recent times due to political correctness). It's not worth the effort to refuse to answer.
I'm going to call BS on Kos. If those forms are not returned, Census workers will physically visit those addresses and attempt to take these Census. If they still don't get results they have to power to compel the residents into complying. We went through this 10 years ago.

With all the noise about "Census under-counts" I wonder why there hasn't been any attention given to the other obvious error that the Census process could be incurring: fraudulent over-counts. Given the use of the counts in apportioning representation in the Federal and state legislatures and, more importantly, in dividing up the $400+ billion of boodle extracted by taxing and exercising the sovereign power to borrow, how many practitioners of "vote early and often" are also reporting a lot of bogus members of their household (e.g, naming all the dogs, cats, goldfish, etc) to pump up the count?
What needs to be understood is that those who are conscientiously refusing to fill out the census are not doing so for political reasons. They have stopped caring whether Democrats or Republicans are in power. They have withdrawn their consent to be governed by the monstrosity in Washington, D.C.
Do what my parents opted to do: fill out only the information required by law. Don't fill out the "extended" information sheet which is not required (Since when does Congress have the right to know family finances for what is basically a citizen head count?).
Send in only the completed, basic census data that people have been filling out since the census began.
Think about it. Even in Texas conservatives don't outnumber liberals by anything like four to three much less two to one. I assume liberals in red states are filling out their forms in good numbers and if many of them moved from blue state gulags, then that should more than balance out those conservatives who are doing their own movement a disservice. Besides a significant number of conservatives in Texas are Democrats (including my own dad) and I doubt they're buying into the census scare.

The Constitution authorizes only a head count --- not all the other crxp illegally demanded by Uncle Sam. When the Supreme Court lies about these things, we need only consult the Constitution itself and kick those august insects in their black bathrobes out of our way. We owe no obedience to lies.

But the Census is supposed to be (As in the Constitution) a head count in order to apportion Representatives, as I understand it.
As such phone numbers and whether or not you own or rent your home ARE irrelevent. This is not supposed to be a big money grab. And by seeing it that way are we not playing into the Liberals Game-Plan? Conservatives have to have their OWN game plan, and falling into the sewer of racial (and Racist) social policy doesn't seem to do much but use up our political energy and focus.

Except we aren't refusing to return the form, we are refusing to fill out the info that isn't necessary. they get to know how many people, that's it. All the rest is the gov't being nosy.
The idea of not reporting race causing further race-based programs disturbs me a little bit. There has to be resistance at some point. What if there are studies involving automobiles, handguns, income, political affiliation, sexuality, etc. that affect goverment contracts and programs? Should I answer those types of questions so that I don't upset the studies? Well, I won't. It's my business and I chose who I share that information with. If you give them an inch, they'll take the whole football field.
By the way, a lot of the hispanics in my area (Texas) are refusing to answer the race question as well. And what if you're of mixed race? What should you put then? I think human is the most accurate response that will fit in the squares.
