The first Champions League game of 2010-11 to be played with a Scottish participant went about as poorly as Scottish football fans could have feared. Celtic was outclassed by Portugal’s Braga 3-0 in the first leg of their Third Qualifying Round affair on Wednesday.
Osorio Costa Silva Alan converted a penalty for the hosts in the 26th minute, while Uwa Echiejile and Nascimento Leite Matheus contributed 76th- and 89th-minute scores, respectively, to help their team to victory in the club’s first-ever Champions League game.
The game was new head coach Neil Lennon’s first in charge with the club. Unfortunately for Lennon, Celtic did not perform well for him, not even recording a shot on goal today.
Celtic will attempt to reverse the three-goal deficit in front of home fans in a week’s time. If it is unsuccessful, the club will transition over to the Play-off Round of the Europa League.
