An EPSRC funded researcher, Dr Kerry Kirwan from the University of Warwick, lead a research team who designed the first sustainable racing car in the world, a Formula 3.

In a ScienceDaily report it states that the car is made from woven flax and recycled carbon fiber. The steering wheel is composed of recycled resin and carrot pulp. The race car runs on biofuel that is made from chocolate and animal fats.

The race car is also quite fast, with top speeds clocking in at 135 mph. It goes from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and it is also turbo charged.

Drivers Lewis Hamilton and Adam Carroll approve of the car as has Ross Brawn, who is the boss of the F1 team. So the car will make its racing debut in the Formula 3 Championship final on October 17th at Brands Hatch.

The success of this sustainable race car will open the door to building more of its kind for both racing and regular civilian car use as well.

There is a video of this car in action at IMPACT! World.
