Fall TV preview: Supernatural *Correction

CW: Supernatural

The fifth season of Supernatural is set to begin on September 10th on the CW. The fourth season followed the Winchester brothers as they struggled to prevent the opening of the 66 seals that would lead to the coming of the apocalypse. In the end, the widening rift between Sam and Dean seemed intimately tied to the opening of the final seal in the last moments of the season.

The knowledge that the apocalypse is coming has weighed heavily on fans' hearts for quite some time, as it was rather well known that Kripke had only planned for five seasons of the show, and it seemed certain that the apocalypse would be the end for the series. Others feared that knowledge that the Supernatural would be able to progress beyond the fifth season would result in a watered down apocalypse. Kripke has assured fans that they are going all out with the apocalypse but will also be leaving the door open for a sixth season.

The fifth season will see the return of several favorite characters to the show. The demon Meg will be back, though in a different host. Sam’s girlfriend, played by Adrianne Palicki, is to play a part in the season. Sam and Dean’s father may return if Jeffrey Dean Morgan can find a way to work it into his busy schedule. Also on tap to appear this season are Paris Hilton (as herself) and Lost’s Mark Pelligrino (as Lucifer). God will also appear in this season of Supernatural though there's been no news about who will be taking on the pivotal role.

The first episode  The synopsis for the second episode, (there's not much available for the premiere) "Good God Y'all" has been summarized by Supernatural.tv as: "Castiel tells Sam and Dean that he is going to search for God, who will be able to defeat Lucifer. Bobby’s old hunter friend, Rufus, is panicked about demons attacking his town, and begs Bobby for help. Sam and Dean arrive at the town and realize there is a spell over the townspeople, making them hallucinate that they are demons and causing them to kill one another. Phil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Sera Gamble."

Following up on the unexpected success of the past four seasons, the fifth season of Supernatural promises a no holds barred look at the apocalypse. Check out the clips from the Chicago Tribune below.
