In the 1984 hit sci-fi film Ghostbusters, the New York Public Library is haunted by the ghost of a librarian past, and calls in the crack Ghostbusting team (Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, and Harold Ramis) to come and save the day.

And, just as in the film, when the Public Libraries of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County are haunted by the prospect of their own libraries becoming things of the past, who gets called in to help out?

The Carolina Ghostbusters, a local group of enthusiasts who come complete with their own proton packs and Ecto mobile replica, teamed up last week with the Charlotte Geeks, Bouncing Ferret Films, and zombies of all ages to produce several public service announcements drawing attention to the plight of Charlotte-area libraries. The “Zombies for Libraries” shoot was directed by Charlotte Geeks founder Joey Paquette, who like many Charlotte citizens is concerned about the looming budget cuts and proposed closings in the PLCM system. After all, libraries feed brains and brains feed zombies, so who better to promote keeping libraries open?

Think of the zombies, and join the Ghostbusters in helping to save the libraries! You can view the PSA’s and learn more about about the issues facing the PLMC system at www.zombiesforlibraries.com. Help your local libraries—the zombies will thank you!
