On February 5th, 2010, Smallville is looking to redeem itself in the eyes of loyal, comic book fans. For nine straight seasons, Smallville has taken the DC Universe's alternate stories and rising stars and made them into angsty, teenage future holders of the gauntlet... of the JLA

The most notable Golden Age heroes, with the exception of Kal-El, have yet to make their grand appearance in the Universe they helped to define. Batman and Wonder Woman will not be delivering smackdowns in Metropolis anytime soon, but the Green Lantern's appearance more than makes up for it.

The two-hour teleplay (written by Geoff Johns) pairs the current members of the newly formed Justice League, with a covert underground group of older heroes like Green Lantern, Doctor Fate (Brent Stait), Stargirl (Britt Irvin) and Hawkman (Michael Shanks)...and Sandman! The Justice Society has its own misgivings  when their sole purpose was to help humankind. What sort of insight can they give Clark and his new band of heroes that will catapult the DC Universe and its heroes into the next century?

Michael Shanks (Hawkman) told Comicbookmovie(dot)com: "There will be a debate going on about whether we should have formed in the first place, and whether anyone should do it." Some fans may find themselves wishing more members were included, like Flash or Powergirl.

Smallville's ratings and viewership has waned over the last few seasons, but the show has never failed to consistently geek out on all things DC, even if it isn't as over the top as most fans expect. This tv movie may be just what the show needs to catapult it into a 10th season, although the ultimate way to put the show back on top is the most obvious and simplest and it only takes two major characters, instead of a movie filled with minor ones: Batman. Wonder Woman.

Bring them in already.
