I grew up in South Jersey and every summer we went to "the shore." It wasn't until I moved West that I realized no one outside of the area understood the reference to "the shore." Well, they do now, thanks to all the controversy surrounding MTV's latest reality series Jersey Shore.
From the outside, Jersey Shore is just another show about what happens when you put young adults in close quarters, offer them booze and turn cameras on them for a length of time. Chaos ensues. That's nothing new. What is new is that the entire population of this series is Italian and proud of it. So instead of being an equal opportunity insulter as they usually are, MTV is being accused of giving Italians a bad name.
First the advertisers jumped ship and now the New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus is pressuring MTV to take the show off the air. The lawmakers are also urging advertisers to abandon the show saying it's bad for business.
What do you think? Should MTV cancel the show or is all of this hubbub simply helping to up the show's ratings?

I love this show! I think it is fun and entertaining, just like a lot of shows on tv. I think it's ridiculous that people have a problem with it, that there is so much hoopla about having a certain group of people making a whole demographic look bad. I mean MTV isn't making all teen girls look like trampy girls because they had the show 16 & Pregnant! Anybody can find a problem in any show so people should just get over it.
they should keep this show on the air. i love this show. i hate mtv but i love this show and i only watch mtv for this show

This show is not making Italians look bad. This particular group of Italians are the ones giving italians a bad name. These people are classless but that's what makes the show hilarious! It's easily my favorite MTV show of all time
I think the show is great and very entertaining. No need to cancel it. It's a bunch of young kids having fun at a summer beach house. Why is everyone getting so out raged? The previews of the latest MTV Real World have two gay guys making out on a pool table and nobody says anything. If you don't like Jersey Shores, don't watch it!
This show is a situation
I am Italian, and the show is not offensive! It's what everyone does when they hang out and party! The show is entertaining, and that's business! MTV has aired plenty of ridiculous shows, why are they making such a big deal about this one? In other words, don't cancel the show!
I spent all my summers at Seaside Heights and it was a great place for the family. MTV's Jersey Shore has turned this beach town into Sleeze town. They disrespect the Italian-Americans and all of us that grew up at the shore. Please send them back to NY or RI and send MTV packing!!
Three of the leading ladies are not even Italian. Wannabe and representing a people they can not be.
This show is I must say get some respect because of the group it targets. People who wish they could be like this. Thats ok because the people in this show are pretending to be Italian too. MYV hired actors and thats what your watching.
