Why go to the mall in freezing temperatures to see Santa when you can go to see Sarah Palin? That's how hundreds of Sarah Palin fans might have felt on Monday as they dashed to Minnesota's Mall of America for Palin's Going Rogue book tour.
The Associated Press reports, "Die-hard supporters treated the event like another Black Friday, lining up outside in freezing weather before the mall doors opened at 5 a.m."
Palin arrived just before noon with her husband Todd and son, Trig and ended up signing books for more than 1,000 people.
Minnesota Public Radio reports, "there was a Palin impersonator, a man wearing sweatpants that read "drill, baby, drill," and a husband and wife wearing matching shirts that said "Palin/Bachmann 2012." That couple, Tom and Gae Magnafici, said they want to see Palin run for the White House with U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, a Republican from Minnesota's 6th District, as her running mate.
A man was also arrested for allegedly throwing two tomatoes at Sarah Palin from the second floor balcony at the Mall of America, MyFoxTwinCities.com reported. Jeremy Olson, 33, allegedly threw two tomatoes from the second balcony, however did not come close to hitting Palin. Bloomington Police report that Bloomington Commander Mark Stehlik was struck in the face with one of the tomatoes and Olson may face charges for assaulting a police officer.
Following the book signing, Palin appeared at a private event at a Bloomington, Minnesota hotel, hosted by The Freedom Club State PAC. Entry to the invitation-only event costed $5,000 per person or couple.
