Despite a storm raging on global warming, hundreds of Palin supporters, armed with sleeping bags, tackled sub-freezing temperatures for the chance to see the woman who stirred a media frenzy with her Op-Ed in The Washington Post.

More than 800 supporters lined up Wednesday at the Salt Lake City Costco to have their copy of Going Rogue signed by the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate.

Deseret News reports, Several military men in uniform were eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see Palin, including Utah National Guard Army Staff Sgt. Tai P Ho'o, who had to get permission from his commanding officer to leave his post for the book signing.

"She is a realistic reformer," Ho'o said. "She is an actual conservative in a party that's shifting more to the left. Palin is a white sheep in a black flock. She is a real conservative. You don't find that in the GOP these days."

Palin signed books and shook hands from noon to 3 p.m., sitting with her husband Todd. Fans only got a few seconds with Palin and Palin’s parents stood at the end to chat with people as they picked up their books.

Palin's mother was born in Salt Lake. "Yeah, A hundred years ago in 1940 in Holy Cross Hospital which I understand is either not here or under a different name," she told Fox KSTU-13 News. Sally Health lived there for three years before her father was transferred by a chemical company to work at the nuclear facility in Hanford, Wash..

Palin's father, Charles, told KSTU that he's proud of his daughter's achievements but is not quite used to the fame.

"This is the kind of stuff that happens to the guy down the street, or happens to you, it's sinking in a little bit but hasn't sunk in completely," he says.
