Huckabee says Palin is rock star status

Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee sat down with Katie Couric this week to discuss whether he'll run in 2012, what he thinks about Sarah Palin, who will be the next GOP rock star and much more.  Huckabee, a 2008 GOP presidential candidate and former Arkansas governor, is currently pushing a new book called "A Simple Christmas: Twelve Stories that Celebrate the True Holiday Spirit." As most of you may already know, former governor Sarah Palin is also on a whirlwind book tour, promoting her memoir Going Rogue.

Both Huckabee and Palin are Republican contenders for 2012 and were recently weighed in on by  Ross Douthat of the New York Times in his op-ed column.  Gallup Polls also took a look ahead to the 2012 presidential election and reported that 71% of Republicans said they would seriously consider voting for Mike Huckabee. This gives Huckabee a slight edge over Mitt Romney (65%) and Sarah Palin (65%) in this early test of the strength of several potential Republican contenders.

On @katiecouric, Mike Huckabee spelled out his feelings on Sarah Palin saying Palin is, "a very charismatic person who is rock star status in the Republican Party." He said he would vote for the former Alaska governor against President Obama, although "in the primary, it would depend on who else was running."

"I don't know that much about her job as governor, because she was coming into office as I was leaving," said Huckabee. "And so we didn't have a lot of cross over time where we interacted at the National Governor's Association, or Republican Governor's Association. But I think that she's not anywhere near the person that sometimes she's been portrayed to be – as completely lacking of any intellectual capacity."
