On December 19, 2010 Carlos Santana and drummer Cindy Blackman tied the knot in Hawaii on the island of Maui. Carlos had proposed to Cindy back in July during their summer tour. Even with rainy weather it didn’t dampen the 180 wedding guests or the bride and groom. Some of the guests in attendance were George Lopez, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. They originally planned for an outdoor ceremony. However, changes were made in the last minute to go inside the Ritz-Carlton hotel instead.
Cindy Blackman’s wedding dress
Her white dress was custom made of silk from a boutique in Zurich, Switzerland called Zoro. Santana also wore white. Blackman, 51, is an accomplished jazz/rock drummer who has risen to fame with Lenny Kravitz. She’s also recoded a number of jazz albums on her own. Her fiancé, Carlos Santana, proposed to her in the middle of their set while on tour in 2010.
The Hawaiian ceremony
The rain was a significant sign for the couple. As suggested by Santana’s son Salvador, from his previous marriage, the couple washed their hands from a bowl of rainwater as part of the ceremony. This was a favorite moment for Cindy Blackman. As part of the hand washing it represented what she says "We absolved ourselves of all things past and all things future except the two of us. It felt so clearing to do that." Carlos then said later on “Cindy is a match with everything that I am, from fire of passion to vulnerability," he says. "Everything tastes better when you share it with your soul mate." The couple also released doves in signifying "to release our purity and love into the cosmos."
Honeymoon in Hawaii and later to Vegas
The couple had their honeymoon in Hawaii over the holiday season. Now it is back to work on Wednesday, January 5 through January 16 at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Congratulations to Carlos and Cindy.
