We all love delicious food and to enjoy special meals at good prices is something worth putting on the calendar. Restaurant weeks are back for 2012, with even more ways to experience the incomparable cuisine of Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Albuquerque and Taos. New Mexico’s third annual Restaurant Weeks, March 4 through April 1, 2012, introduces the “Let’s Do Lunch” program, giving daytime diners the opportunity to feast on two- or three-course prix-fixe lunches as well as dinners.
Santa Fe Restaurant Week (March 4-11) kicks off a month-long, statewide culinary celebration that continues with Las Cruces Restaurant Week (March 11-18), Albuquerque Restaurant Week (March 18-25) and Taos Restaurant Week (March 25-April 1). In addition to value-priced lunches and dinners, people can take advantage of great lodging packages and expand their epicurean horizons through an extensive selection of cooking classes, wine and spirits tastings and other special events.
Last year, I arrived in Santa Fe, just in time for Restaurant Week. My friend and I dined at Pizzaria da Lino and decided that we'd return for pizza even without the reasonably priced three-course dinner. During restaurant week, there were several choices for each course including either wood-fired pizza or pasta. We opted to start with Chianti, of course, then a Caesar Salad, a marvelous cheese and mushroom pizza, perfect for two, and finished by sharing a scrumptious tiramisu dessert.
What I enjoyed about the Restaurant Week meal is that the restaurant could suggest options… some of which I would not normally have ordered (dessert!). Another big positive is that I now have a new favorite pizza place in Santa Fe, within walking distance of The Plaza.
