The back patio at Joe's Farm Grill
Technically, Joe's Farm Grill isn't in Phoenix, but I'd recommend all Phoenicians get their bum into a car and drive to one of the best casual dining spots in the Valley...for several reasons.
First off, they use quality ingredients. Much of the produce used at the restaurant is grown on the adjacent farm or by local growers. They also strive for the healthiest products, like natural beef and transfat-free oil.
Secondly, the ambience. Even during summer months you'll find diners sitting outside to take in the idyllic farm setting. Tables and picnic benches overlook trees, beautiful landscaping, farmland and the next door coffee shop.
Thirdly, there's something for everyone. From salads to burgers to sandwiches to pizzas or ribs, there's something everyone can get behind. And who doesn't like fresh ingredients?
There IS the whole Gilbert thing. It's not a hop, skip and a jump away. But when I have some lunch-time to burn, and I want to make it good, Joe's is often my destination of choice.

Sandwich #1: Aji Tuna Sandwich, $11.99
Food TV's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives visited Joe's Farm Grill a few years ago and profiled the Aji Sandwich, so I gave it a try. Rare tuna is paired with wasabi mayo, Asian slaw, the usuals (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles) come on the side along with fries.
It's not a neat sandwich, slippery tuna tries to escape from the bun at every bite, but it is a delicious blend of flavors.
Sandwich #2: Farm Chicken Sandwich, $7.99
The grilled chicken breast is simple and delicious (I like mine with grilled onions). Dress it how you like with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and an array of choices from the outside condiment bar. Add sweet potato fries for $3.99.
Sandwich #3: Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, $8.99
Like sandwich #2, but paired with hot wing sauce and blue cheese for a spicier sammy.
Also available: BBQ Pork Sandwich, Chicken Salad Sandwich, classic Grilled Cheese and a Portobello Mushroom Sandwich.
