San Mateo County coroner Robert Foucrault has failed to answer a call to debate from challenger Stacie Nevares. On March 29, challenger Nevares issued a letter to the incumbent coroner requesting a debate on the merits of each candidate's qualifications. To date, Foucrault has failed to respond despite Nevares offer to submit a time, date, location and format of Foucrault's choosing.
"It is clear that the current Coroner has no intention of running on his record as his tenure has been defined by scandal, lawsuits and investigations," said Nevares. "Despite my public call for a debate the Coroner continues to hide behind incumbency and the hope that the memories of San Mateo County voters are short."
Under Foucrault's leadership the Coroner's office has been sued for allegations of sexual harassment and,for failing to disclose that the Coroner's office had retained a patient's heart even after the young man was laid to rest.
Further Investigations of the Coroner's office found that the several incidents of inappropriate behavior including the viewing of pornography. Foucraultl himself has been accused of mooning two employees.
San Mateo County residents deserve better," said Nevares. "It is time to elect a Coroner who will restore the respect and dignity that the functions of this public agency require."
Both candidates look to settle the score on the June 8th election.

It is also abundantly clear that Ms. Nevares has no intention to run on her own record either, as she only focuses on dredging up alleged and unfounded allegations and a lawsuit that has to this point shown no wrongdoing by the Coroner's Office.
Why doesnt Mr. Capote ask Ms. Nevares some tough questions about her record at the Coroner's Office, such as how many death investigations has she ever done? What exactly was her role in creating the County Homicide Protocol and other policies to help "collaboratively solve crimes"? Why did she leave the Coroner's Office? What experience, other than degrees actually qualifies her to head the Coroner's Office? What is her experience budgeting nearly 2 million dollars? Oh wait, that would make for a short article because she doesnt have any.
Ms. Nevares needs to stop trashing an office she knows little of as her campaign platform and start to explain how she would implement all these grandiose plans in the current economic climate.
In response to Ms. Nevares recent innuendo and allegations regarding the past and recent running of the San Mateo County Coroners Office, perhaps she can provide any FACTS and not perceptions of the incidents she speaks of? Perhaps she can speak of any of HER past or present relevant death investigation, departmental budgeting, death notifications, and application of Coroner law and/or law enforcement experience as a sworn Peace Officer? Perhaps Ms. Nevares can cease her negative campaign which focuses on a small percentage of Coroner Foucaults tenure which has been proven unfounded, and begin to run a campaign for the Office based upon her experience and her accomplishments in any relevant applicable county service. Ms. Nevares states: "San Mateo County residents deserve better". Ms. Nevares is correct and she is not that candidate.
